 About the Book

A biography of an extraordinary Spanish explorer, Cabeza de Vaca (1490-1557), who was shipwrecked off the coast of Florida in 1527, lived with the local natives for many years and made a long trek through the American Southwest, the first European to do so, to Spanish Mexico. He later went on to explore parts of South America around the Paraguay River between Paraguay and Brazil and to establish Spanish colonies there.
